Motorcycle accident west of Marble Falls claims man's life

BURNET — A motorcycle rider whose vehicle crashed into a fence pole Feb. 6 died from his injuries not long after the accident, officials said.

Carl Dean New, 23, was pronounced dead at 5:35 p.m. by Dr. Laura Beech at Seton Highland Lakes Hospital.

The accident was reported about 4:05 p.m. on FM 1980 about an eighth of a mile from the intersection with RR 1431, just west of Marble Falls.

New lived nearby, investigators said.

According to a Department of Public Safety investigator, New was riding a 2002 Yamaha race-performance bike and traveling north on 1980 when he attempted to pass a vehicle traveling in the same direction.

He swerved to avoid oncoming traffic, left the roadway and struck a pole, investigators said.

 

According to relatives, he was born Aug. 20, 1988, in Lancaster to Dean McKinney and Saundra New.

According to a family obituary, "He was raised to be a wonderful, loving young man by his grandfather Gail New and his aunt Sabra Henigan. He left this world fast and furious, doing what he loved most."

Survivors include sisters Candance Varnell and Shelcee New of Marble Falls; grandparents Gail New, Peggy New and Patsy McKinney; aunts Sabra Henigan and fiancé Kevin Mott, Jenny New and Debbie Merriet; great-aunt Juanelle Linenberger; cousins Dusty Rhine, Megan and Whittney Hill and McKayla Hannibass, and Thomas, Tony and Merissa Mott; birth mother Saundra New Houle and husband Larry;  birth father Dean McKinney; nephew Landon Riley; girlfriend Kristine Patterson; best friend Ty Sadler; and other relatives and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Gail and Mable New; grandfather Garland McKinney; aunt Diane Christian; and uncle Lee Henigan.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Feb. 10 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373.

A funeral service is 10 a.m. Feb. 11 at First Baptist Church, 501 Twelfth St. in Marble Falls, with the reverends Max Copeland and Weldon French officiating. Interment will follow at Marble Falls City Cemetery.
